I took my 98 Dakota in for a rattle that I was hearing when the
transmission was engaged. They diagnosed it correctly in 5 minutes a a bad
catalytic converter (which raises other issues, as the truck has less than 20,000
miles!) At any rate, they took the truck in, said they were going to check to see
if the had the cat in stock and would get it to a local muffler shop for the
install (they don't do their own exhaust work.) I said great, give me a call when
it's ready to be picked up and hopped the shuttle in to work. Turns out the part
is not in stock, have to special order it. So they gave me a call right away,
right? WRONG!!! They sat on my truck all day without doing a damn thing to it
(they didn't even have the decency to give her a bath!) I finally gave them a call
at 5:00 o'clock going "where's my truck" to be given the story about special
ordering the part. So I asked for a shuttle pickup, only to be told that the
shuttle stops running at 4:30 PM... Thanks for giving me the heads up, guys!!! I
have to call my wife who just got home and have her give me a ride to the
dealership to pick up my still rattling truck!
The upside to the whole story is that they did finally get the part in at the end
of September, so I took the truck back in, the local shop performed the swap and
she's running like new again! But get this, when I took her back in, I still did
not get a call from them letting me know everything was finished. Having learned
from my previous "encounter", I called them at about 3:00 to ask about it and was
told it was all finished. When I got home that evening, I had a message on my home
answering machine letting me know that my truck was all ready! Hmmm, now let's
see... it's sometime during the day, when most people are at work... this guys
given us his work phone number AND his pager number... I know, we'll call his
freaking home phone number and just leave a message there. I'm sure he's just
checking those home messages several times a day!!!
