I'm sorry you can't be here yourself, but I guess this is the next
best thing. :-) I have a video camera feeding into the video card
of a computer in the barn, where the grub will be served, and
which will be a general gathering area. I wish I had more cameras so
I could show you all the action,
but I guess you'll have to wait for the meet reports for that. (I'd
love to mount some cameras inside the trucks with some sort of wireless
system...) ANYWAY, back to the subject at hand. :-)
A new picture is snapped every 2 minutes, and immediately uploaded
to the site. I would have liked to have it update more often (or
better yet, have a live video feed) :-) but unfortunately, my only
means of connecting to the Internet out here is a modem, over phone lines
so bad that a connection above 28.8kbps is just about impossible. So,
2 minutes is the compromise.
I have created three different pages for you to view
these images, depending on what browser you're using, or based
on your own personal preferences. They are described in
alphabetical order as follows:
- Java Applet
- This page contains a Java applet which will refresh the image
every two minutes. This should work reliably in all browsers that
support Java. The advantage of this method is that the image should
be updated with no "flicker".
- Javascript
- This page contains Javascript code which causes the image to be updated
every two minutes. This should work for Internet Explorer 4 and
later, but it might not work with Netscape. The advantage of this
method is that it has a countdown timer which shows how much time is
left before the next image update. A disadvantage is that the image
updates with some flicker.
- Meta refresh
- This page contains a meta tag which causes the browser to reload the
page every two minutes. It should work reliably in all relatively
modern browsers. An advantage of this method is that it should work
for the vast majority of browsers, without requiring Java or Javascript
support. A disadvantage is that the image updates with some flicker.
(Also, the entire page is updated rather than just the image, but
for a page this small, that's not really much overhead.)
To check out the meet, just click on one of the methods above (or in the
menu below.) The menu below will also appear below the image on all of the
pages, to allow you to easily switch to a different method.
