2000 4x4 ClubCab with a 4.7l_V8 engine, built in the Warren,MI plant; sequence number 518299 | |
Mileage | Problem |
---|---|
200 | When slowly accelerating to 20 MPH, harsh shifting from first to second gear. Dealer said this was a common problem for 2000 Durangos and Daks. Dealer reprogrammed computer. Problem fixed. |
500 | While driving down road, entire instrument cluster goes dead. After a few minutes, comes back to life. Took to dealer and, of course, it was working fine. Dealer went through electrical system and checked connections. Problem fixed. |
1200 | Instrument cluster goes dead and comes alive again. Dealer can't explain. Also, according to the dealer the next is not a problem...but it sure is annoying. When temperatures get cold, the overdrive won't kick in until sufficient engine temperature is achieved. Other than that, the truck has been great. Used it the other day to pull a Powerstroke FORD out the snow. |

2000 4x4 ClubCab with a 4.7l_V8 engine, built in the Warren,MI plant; sequence number 560458 | |
Mileage | Problem |
---|---|
0 | Zero miles found left rear wheel well mud strip hardware loose from nutplates. Also note that wheel well mud strip paint color is not an exact match to exterior paint color. Must have been painted separatly. |
10 | 10 miles wheel alignment off, truck pulls to right. |
80 | 80 miles automatic transmission was not shifting correctly. Found fluid level to be a pint low. Added fluid which corrected problem... no leaks found. |
100 | 100 miles found plastic lines approx. 1/4 inch diameter to front brake calipers not attached to supports; therefore, they were just blowing in the breeze and chafing on inboard side of front wheels. Snapped them back in place myself without hassling with dealer. No damage noted. |
6000 | 6000 miles when applying brakes truck vibrates heavily. Suspect front disc brakes to be warped... have not taken into dealership at this time. (Note brakes may not be able to handle weight of vehicle thus causing brakes to overheat and warp.) Are there any upgrades that your aware of? |
6200 | 6200 miles I can hear a high pitch whining with truck in park. I have an automatic transmission so I don't believe its a throw-out bearing. Seems to be louder at night when headlights are on and the sound changes tones when I press on brake pedal. Could it be an electrical problem or component? Have not taken into dealer at this time. |

2000 4x4 ClubCab with a 4.7l_V8 engine, built in the Warren,MI plant; sequence number 572976 | |
Mileage | Problem |
---|---|
4400km | Replaced transmission, front axle assembly, front driveshaft, and engine mounts due to trying too hard to get unstuck. I was rocking the truck back and forth and the whole front end twisted up on me. Most of the replacement was from torn mounts and cracked casings. Damage totaled $10,000 Canadian and was not covered by warranty. What a mess! |

3000 | Started vehicle, all gear indicator lights illuminated transmission stuck in second gear (limp home mode), shut off & restarted several times, same thing. Drove another five miles, shut off, restarted everything working fine except engine service light on, captured code no big deal, one time event, right. Take to dealer will not malfunction, they reset the computer, and change trans control module, takes two days to get the only one in midwest, I'm on my way. I make one stop, trans locks in second. Take back to dealer next day they say must be valve in valve body (I'm guessing he's just as clueless as I am), dealer resets computer, I'm on my way again. Get ready to go to work next day, suprise trans. locked in second gear, first stop Dealer. Dealer and I know one another quite well by now so he canibalizes yet another trans. control module off another Dakota blames it on service manual hook-up error (Hmm I think the connectors are keyed) have not had any problems since (10000 miles). |

Mileage | Problem |
---|---|
0 | Front end alignment off from factory. Passenger door hinges not fully attatched to body. 2 of 4 bolts were just started and not screwed in or tightened down. |
1400 | 1400 Miles - CV boot torn and wheel bearing blown front passanger wheel. Dealer stated it looked like transport damage (tied down using axle.) but you never know! (How does tying down to the axle blow your wheel bearing? I guess it's possible? The CV boot I could understand.) |
5000 | Water condensation found in Oil filler tube. No fix yet found as of 19 Jan 00. |
9000 | Rear Passenger brake - Shoe came unrivited from mounting bracket, gutting entire brake for that wheel. Replaced Pressure plate, drum, shoes, all internal mechanicals. |

Mileage | Problem |

0 | From day one the intermittent wipers did'nt work properly. @ 0 miles engine has had an annoying tapping noise. Dealer claims they have had many complaints on the 3.9L, however there was nothing they can do. Passenger side door has a paint run. On delivery I discovered a large hose disconnected in the engine compartment laying on the left exhaust manifold. It was a venting hose from the fuel tank that was supposed to be connected to the LDP (evap leak detection pump). |
740 | At 740 miles my 3.9L developed a loud knocking on engine startup and during warm-up. My dealer said it was "piston slap" (undersize or out off round piston). The dealer replaced all six pistons. problem is gone. What are the long term effects !!! needless to say im very upset. |

0 | Problem only occurs whe gas tank is between half full and full. After stopping a loud thump noise is heard and felt. It comes from the area of the fuel tank.Under half tank the noise is gone. Dealer replaced tank and talked with the factory. They say it is a design flaw in the tank, with no baffle in it. The float is hitting the top of the tank. They say it is normal and there is no fix. They say all Dakotas like mine do it. Hard to believe! Anyone have a simular problem? |
