0 Power steering pump problem occurred at 0 miles: excessively loud whine or whirring sound. Dealer replaced the pump at 500 miles. Noise is greatly reduced.
1000 High frequency vibration occurred at about 1000 miles: This vibration is felt just after the torque converter locks up. It is felt as a buzzing sensation in the steering wheel and the floor at exactly 2000 rpm (60 mph in overdrive, or 45 mph when not in overdrive.)

0 I ordered my truck direct from my local dealer - I picked it up after it sat on the lot for 3 days. At delivery - paint on tailgate and rear fenders was all scratched / hazy from some type of cover that rubbed / made contact with paint. At delivery, power steering fluid was WELL below the ADD line when warm. - Noticed after I test drove truck. Truck died once with 45 miles on odometer - has not since repeated. At 2000 RPM, I experience a vibration / harmonic noise, appears to be nothing more than an annoyance so far - it has done this since I first test drove it with 0 miles to present, 700 miles. I've noticed that when I put the truck into park from drive, it has a tendency to clunk into park and sort of lurch backward, like it's releasing the suspension energy. Interior came with what the dealer is calling factory "grease" stains. They will try to clean the interior up when they fix / repaint the tailgate and fenders. Windshield wiper is also mal-aligned. The passenger wiper is cockeyed about 7-10 degrees up, I will probably just fix this myself. I know that I have to allow the engine to fully wear in before I can get an accurate gas mileage reading, but right now, it's not anywhere near the 15-20 that the sticker advertised. I am curious if any other 4.7 owners are having poor mileage too.

2000 4x2 QuadCab with a 3.9L_V6 engine, built in the Warren,MI plant; sequence number 601664
MileageProblem
3000 In March at about 3k miles we received an Emmisions Recall to reprogram the powertrain control module. The problem... The On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system will not detect a catalyst failure as required by Federal Emissions Regulations.
4000 At 4k miles a whine/howl coming from the rear end was discovered. Also, the power steering pump is making noises. Every now and then when taking off slow the transmission seems to stay in a low gear as if it were in a 'bull dog' gear, but stops once some speed is gained.

unknown 1. Rough idle.
2. Bed Misaligned. Taking to dealer for fix.
3. Leaking trans fluid. Took to dealer twice. Second time, called Chrysler and they found a pinched vent line on transmission. This is a known problem.
4. I also have the strange rub/vibration in the gas pedel at 2000 RPMS and 60 MPH. Dealer said they could feel something but had no idea what it was and no to worry about it.

0 When ambient temperature under hood gets high enough fan clutch kicks in. This causes the engine to seem like it's roaring but going nowhere. The truck actually has the same amount of power. It just sounds like it's revving a lot higher. This is a known problem (DC says it's not a problem but enough complaints have caused a TSB to be written).

0 The emissions sticker that was placed on the under side of the hood was for a 3.9L v-6 and not for my 4.7L v-8.
1000 At 1000 miles I noticed there are what appears to be stress cracks in both fog lights, the cracks are identical on the left light and the right.
The fold down center console gets binded up occasionally when trying to open it.

10 Had a "whine" coming from the rear end. This problem was dicovered by a service tech who test drove the truck upon delivery. Pulled the cover off the rear end and discovered "loose bolts". All "bolts" were tightened, no more noise. This truck has the 3.92 gear ratio (DMH) and Sure-Grip Differential (DSA)
300 Noticed rough idle at around 300 miles.Took truck to dealer and had service tech check it out. Was told that the idle was normal. Truck still idles very rough.

10 I've had aproblem with the idle since I got the truck with 10 miles on it, But now I'm having it seen to.The idle problem I'm having is this - when the air or heat(middle knob is ON) is on, the idle will hang around 1000 rpm's when you mash the clutch in and you're moving. When the middle knob is in the off position, the idle will fluctuate greatly when the clutch is mashed in(between 400&900rpm's). When you come to a complete stop with the clutch mashed in,the idle likes to hunt around about 3 times going from about 350 to 700 rpm's and settling at 600.When the motor hits 350-400 rpm's, it shakes pretty good and feels like it's going to die.Right now, Dodge is trying to blame this problem on winter gas mixes in the warmer southern states, but I think that they just don't know what the problem is and don't want to say it.The percentage of 4.7L owners having similar problems is overwhelming. I think this a is a serious problem and it concerns me greatly.

200 When slowly accelerating to 20 MPH, harsh shifting from first to second gear. Dealer said this was a common problem for 2000 Durangos and Daks. Dealer reprogrammed computer. Problem fixed.
500 While driving down road, entire instrument cluster goes dead. After a few minutes, comes back to life. Took to dealer and, of course, it was working fine. Dealer went through electrical system and checked connections. Problem fixed.
1200 Instrument cluster goes dead and comes alive again. Dealer can't explain. Also, according to the dealer the next is not a problem...but it sure is annoying. When temperatures get cold, the overdrive won't kick in until sufficient engine temperature is achieved. Other than that, the truck has been great. Used it the other day to pull a Powerstroke FORD out the snow.

0 Zero miles found left rear wheel well mud strip hardware loose from nutplates. Also note that wheel well mud strip paint color is not an exact match to exterior paint color. Must have been painted separatly.
10 10 miles wheel alignment off, truck pulls to right.
80 80 miles automatic transmission was not shifting correctly. Found fluid level to be a pint low. Added fluid which corrected problem... no leaks found.
100 100 miles found plastic lines approx. 1/4 inch diameter to front brake calipers not attached to supports; therefore, they were just blowing in the breeze and chafing on inboard side of front wheels. Snapped them back in place myself without hassling with dealer. No damage noted.
6000 6000 miles when applying brakes truck vibrates heavily. Suspect front disc brakes to be warped... have not taken into dealership at this time. (Note brakes may not be able to handle weight of vehicle thus causing brakes to overheat and warp.) Are there any upgrades that your aware of?
6200 6200 miles I can hear a high pitch whining with truck in park. I have an automatic transmission so I don't believe its a throw-out bearing. Seems to be louder at night when headlights are on and the sound changes tones when I press on brake pedal. Could it be an electrical problem or component? Have not taken into dealer at this time.

4400km Replaced transmission, front axle assembly, front driveshaft, and engine mounts due to trying too hard to get unstuck. I was rocking the truck back and forth and the whole front end twisted up on me. Most of the replacement was from torn mounts and cracked casings. Damage totaled $10,000 Canadian and was not covered by warranty. What a mess!

3000 Started vehicle, all gear indicator lights illuminated transmission stuck in second gear (limp home mode), shut off & restarted several times, same thing. Drove another five miles, shut off, restarted everything working fine except engine service light on, captured code no big deal, one time event, right. Take to dealer will not malfunction, they reset the computer, and change trans control module, takes two days to get the only one in midwest, I'm on my way. I make one stop, trans locks in second. Take back to dealer next day they say must be valve in valve body (I'm guessing he's just as clueless as I am), dealer resets computer, I'm on my way again. Get ready to go to work next day, suprise trans. locked in second gear, first stop Dealer. Dealer and I know one another quite well by now so he canibalizes yet another trans. control module off another Dakota blames it on service manual hook-up error (Hmm I think the connectors are keyed) have not had any problems since (10000 miles).

0 Front end alignment off from factory. Passenger door hinges not fully attatched to body. 2 of 4 bolts were just started and not screwed in or tightened down.
1400 1400 Miles - CV boot torn and wheel bearing blown front passanger wheel. Dealer stated it looked like transport damage (tied down using axle.) but you never know! (How does tying down to the axle blow your wheel bearing? I guess it's possible? The CV boot I could understand.)
5000 Water condensation found in Oil filler tube. No fix yet found as of 19 Jan 00.
9000 Rear Passenger brake - Shoe came unrivited from mounting bracket, gutting entire brake for that wheel. Replaced Pressure plate, drum, shoes, all internal mechanicals.

0 From day one the intermittent wipers did'nt work properly.

@ 0 miles engine has had an annoying tapping noise. Dealer claims they have had many complaints on the 3.9L, however there was nothing they can do.

Passenger side door has a paint run.

On delivery I discovered a large hose disconnected in the engine compartment laying on the left exhaust manifold. It was a venting hose from the fuel tank that was supposed to be connected to the LDP (evap leak detection pump).
740 At 740 miles my 3.9L developed a loud knocking on engine startup and during warm-up. My dealer said it was "piston slap" (undersize or out off round piston). The dealer replaced all six pistons. problem is gone. What are the long term effects !!! needless to say im very upset.

0 Problem only occurs whe gas tank is between half full and full. After stopping a loud thump noise is heard and felt. It comes from the area of the fuel tank.Under half tank the noise is gone. Dealer replaced tank and talked with the factory. They say it is a design flaw in the tank, with no baffle in it. The float is hitting the top of the tank. They say it is normal and there is no fix. They say all Dakotas like mine do it. Hard to believe! Anyone have a simular problem?
